This rarely seen phenomenon was captured at Logan Pass in late September. It was once commonly referred to as a “Proton Arc” but now scientists call it S.T.E.V.E., which is an acronym that stands for “Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement”. This atmospheric phenomenon tends to coincide with the Aurora Borealis but it’s much less predictable, infrequent and it appears to have different behavior and properties.
