This rarely seen phenomenon was captured at Logan Pass in late September. It was once commonly referred to as a “Proton Arc” but now scientists have decided that protons could not be the cause and have suggested naming it something else. As of right now no one has been able to give a detailed explanation of what causes this spire of light, only that it tends to coincide with the Aurora Borealis but it’s much less predictable, infrequent and it appears to have different behavior and properties.
